Roosevelt Elementary students celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday

Posted: Updated:

Children's author Dr. Seuss would have turned 110 on Sunday.

Students at Roosevelt Elementary School in Scottsbluff participated in a day of fun to celebrate the illustrator's legacy and birthday.

It was part of National Read Across America Day. The special day, which is March 2, encourages kids to read.

Students participated in relay races and built book bags. In every class volunteers also read books by Dr. Suess.

Teacher Jeane Anderson says the day was to encourage students to read in a fun way.
"Reading isn't just for school. It's for fun, it's for home and we really just want to get them involved in any reading they can do."
