Tax preparer shoveling sidewalks; ready for farmer tax deadlines

Posted: Updated:

The first day of March started with a blanket of white snow in the streets of Scottsbluff, nothing uncommon to Nebraskans this time of year.

City crews were up early Saturday morning clearing sidewalks in single digit temperatures.

While walking along First Avenue, I met Pat Correll, a tax preparer, who was also up early ready for her day at work.
"I'm a tax accountant so we have tax returns, we have farmer tax deadline which is today," she explained as the wind whipped around.

Correll says March 1st is also the day for fishermen to file their returns. But since the deadline falls on a weekend, farmers and fishermen have until March 3rd to file their returns without any penalties.

Correll seemed determined to get out of the snow and ignore the fact that it was falling around in several directions.
She said she couldn't wait for warmer weather.
"Actually, summer will be wonderful..." she smiled.
Born in North Platte, Correll said she was use to this weather. I told her I'm from Connecticut but I will never get use to it.
"You guys got a lot of snow there too don't ya. But I don't think you have the wind."
No Pat you're right, we don't. Good luck meeting your tax deadlines this weekend.
