Maximum sentence given to man convicted of assaulting 9-month-pregnant girlfriend

Posted: Updated:

A Scottsbluff man has received the maximum prison sentence stemming from a November assault on his 9-month-pregnant girlfriend.

25-year-old Britton Short was sentenced to the next 20-50 months in jail, after pleading no contest to 3rd Degree Domestic Assault of a pregnant woman.

Last fall, Police were dispatched to a Scottsbluff gas station for a reported domestic assault. Short was located in a nearby business, and was placed under arrest.

While being escorted to the patrol unit, Short allegedly turned and head butted the left side of the head of the arresting officer.

Judge Leo Dobrovolny said that with Short's significant criminal history, which includes assault, meth distribution, driving under the influence and criminal mischief, probation would not prove beneficial.

Dobrovolny continued that his attitude did not appear remorseful for the crimes committed.

Short is given credit for 119 days served, and will be eligible for parole in 10 months .
