Former NSP Captain gets "major" promotion in Lincoln

The Nebraska State Patrol has announces the promotion of Captain Bret Friesz, Commander Troop A-Omaha, to the position of Investigative Services Major, assigned to State Headquarters-Lincoln.

A 30-year veteran of the agency, Major Friesz, 53, has served in many positions within the Nebraska State Patrol to include Field Services, Investigative Services, Police Service Dog handler, SWAT and as an instructor at the NSP Training Academy. He also served as a Lieutenant for Troop E back in the late 2000's.

"Bret has been a valuable member of the agency's management team," said Colonel David Sankey, Superintendent of the Nebraska State Patrol. "We are excited to have him at State Headquarters and look forward to the leadership he will bring the Investigative Services Division."

A certified national instructor for the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) "Leadership in Police Organizations" course, Major Friesz is also a trained "Subject Matter Expert" and facilitator for the Data-Driver Approaches to Crime and Traffic Safety (DDACTS) operational model. Major Friesz is a 2003 graduate of the Northwestern University's School of Police Staff and Command, and the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Association.

Major Friesz replaces Major Mark Funkhouser who retired from the agency in December 2013.
