Scottsbluff coffee shop spreading cheer through suspended coffees

Posted: Updated:

Patrons at a local coffee shop in Scottsbluff are spreading cups of warm cheer to others in the community through an idea called suspended coffees.
Owner Angela Kembel of Cappuccino and Company Coffee shop says suspended coffees are a good-will gesture.

When residents pay for their coffee they can also purchase one for someone else ahead of time.

Kembel says people can then redeem the coffee either for financial, emotional, spiritual needs if they so choose.

She says she started the suspended coffee program at her shop about two months ago and has already collected nearly two hundred dollars in donations.

Kembel says she has really generous patrons.
"Recently we were able to put in some phone calls to WEL-Life and to the veterans home and invite a number of residents here for an afternoon of coffee and cookies and someone had stepped forward and said they would cover the cookies."
The suspended coffee idea started about 100 years ago in Naples, Italy.

Kembel says she hopes other coffee shops in the area pick up the idea.
