Microsoft ends support for Windows XP

Posted: Updated:

April 8, 2014 is a date all Microsoft Windows XP users should be aware of.
It's on that day that Microsoft will no longer provide support for the Windows XP operating system.

What that means is Microsoft will no longer release new updates or patches for the operating system.

That could put Windows XP users at risk, because they wont be protected from any new vulnerabilities or viruses.
"That means that the virus or malware you may run into has free reign to get on your computer, and there's really nothing you can do about it to stop it," said Todd Lewis, Vice President of Bytes Computer and Network Solutions.

Lewis says he strongly suggests Windows XP users upgrade their systems before April 8.

"You could run the risk of getting a virus or malware that can steal your credit card information, your banking account information, or your passwords to your e-mail accounts. It's limitless what could happen. So its best to stay protected and that means you need to upgrade."
