Scotts Bluff County Tourism changing its name

Posted: Updated:

Members of the Scotts Bluff County Tourism Advisory Committee have chosen a new name for the organization they say will bring more visitors into the area.

Scotts Bluff County Tourism will now be called Scotts Bluff Area Visitors Bureau.

Director Brenda Leisy presented the name change to Scotts Bluff County Commissioners Monday night in Gering.

She says the destination marketing organization promotes specific attractions outside Scotts Bluff County like Chimney Rock, Agate Fossil Beds part of the Oregon Trails and Banner County.

Leisy says by adopting the words "area" and "visitors" people will have a better sense of what the organization has to offer.

"My main reason is people don't like to be called tourists anymore. We picture tourists in our head from the 70s and 80s and people don't want to be that…their visitors."

Commissioners Sherry Blaha and Steve Stratton voiced their approval.

"100% go along with it,"said Blaha.

"We recognize through our visitors dollars we are the hub for the panhandle basically," said Stratton.

Leisy says the logo of the organization will not change just the name.
