Scottsbluff man charged with domestic assault, strangulation, and false imprisonment

Posted: Updated:

A Scottsbluff man is facing serious charges after an alleged weekend domestic assault.

On Saturday, neighbors say a woman ran to their residence after being detained by 23-year-old Michael Carrera. The neighbors say the injuries were so bad they had to call police.

Court documents say late last week Carrera told the woman to leave the residence. When she did, he chased after her; dragged her in to the backyard and choked her until she passed out.

When the woman came to, Carrera was allegedly punching her in the back. When she rolled over he reportedly punched her twice in the face with a closed fist and kicked her down the steps into the basement.

The arrest affidavit says that Carrera kept the woman in the residence against her will. She escaped in the morning hours of Saturday and her neighbors hid her in their bathroom. During that time they saw Carrera looking for the woman carrying a large stick.

Carrera was arrested at his residence, and is charged with aggravated domestic assault, strangulation, and false imprisonment.

Carrera was arraigned in Scotts Bluff County Court Monday afternoon on charges of third degree domestic assault and strangulation, a Class IV Felony.

Bond was set at $7,000.
