Terrytown man arrested on identity theft charge; admitted to stealing nearly $8k from Bluffs couple

A Terrytown man accused of stealing the identity from a former high school classmate is being charged with identity theft, following a two-week investigation by police.

25-year-old Ricardo Nunez was apprehended on Sunday by Scottsbluff Police. Court documents say that Nunez admitted to using an acquaintance's name to open numerous bank accounts and credit cars.

Nunez admitted during an interview to purchasing about $1,500 worth of merchandise from 'The Buckle' using a fraudulent credit card, as well as $1,900 from 2 different Best Buy locations. In addition, Nunez admitted to taking out a cash advance of $4,500 from a Wells Fargo Bank under a fraudulent account.

The victims found out about the fraud when their debit card was declined at Wal-Mart while purchasing groceries.

If Nunez is convicted of this Class III Felony, he could face up to 20 years in prison.
