Proposed e-cigs ban for Nebraska minors sparks debate

Posted: Updated:

It may soon be illegal for Nebraska minors from using electronic cigarettes if lawmakers get their way.

State senators are working on a multi-layered piece of legislation that would tackle several legislative bills. One of those bills would prohibit minors from using vapor products...more commonly known as electronic cigarettes.

The bill would require retailers to keep e-cigarettes behind the counter in a secured case.
"If you're 18 or 21- it's your choice," explains bill introducer Russ Karpisek. "I don't like to get into your business. But I think we owe it to the kids, not to let them do it free for all."
With uncertainty about the potential health risks with these relatively new products, senators want to make sure it stays out of the hands - and lungs - of children.
