Scotts Bluff County farmer donates $2,500 to Mitchell Volunteer FD

A Scotts Bluff County farmer has chosen to donate $2,500 to the Mitchell Volunteer Fire Department after receiving the money from the America's Farmers Grow Communities sponsored by the Monsanto Fund.

Brenda Loose of Mitchell along with other sponsors presented a check to the Mitchell Fire Chief and volunteer fire members on Tuesday night.

Loose was selected as a winner in America's Farmers Grow Communities for 2014.

Loose and her husband say they were excited to receive the money and wanted to pay it forward to the volunteers who risk their lives for residents in the community every day.

Mitchell Fire Chief Jon Wurdeman says he's thankful for the farmers in the area and assured the money would be put to good use.
"It takes roughly anywhere from two-thousand to twenty-five hundred dollars to outfit a person complete from helmet to boot," said Wurdeman. "So this money will be used to buy a full outfit."
Ron Loose says as a farmer he and his wife have a good relationship with volunteer firefighters.

"They've done quite a bit for us in the past, we just figured it's a way of giving back...and they're volunteers."
America's Farmers Grow Communities works directly with farmers to support non-profit organizations that do important work in rural communities.
