Charges filed against Scottsbluff shooting suspect; will be back in court on Tuesday

Posted: Updated:

Charges have been filed against a 29-year-old man shot by an officer during a standoff in Scottsbluff.
Matthew Schwab faces four felony counts of terroristic threats. Back in January, police received reports that a man was yelling in the streets and possibly armed with a knife.

When they tried to talk to the man, he retreated into an R.V. On 16th Avenue.

The SWAT team was called on scene, and saw that Schwab was armed with a handgun.
Captain Brian Wasson says that's when officers had to act fast.
"The SWAT Team was working on assuming control of the perimeter when the male subject exited the RV approaching officers, and officers returned fire and struck the male two times," recounts Wasson.
Schwab suffered two gunshot wounds, but has since been treated and transported to Scotts Bluff County Jail.
A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Tuesday in Scotts Bluff County Court.
