Big turnout for Teddy Bear Clinic at Riverside Discovery Center

Posted: Updated:

Children played doctor with their stuffed animals on Saturday at the Riverside Discovery Center in Scottsbluff.
More than 70 parents and kids took part in a "Teddy Bear Clinic."

Kids worked with nursing students from the University of Nebraska Medical Center to see if their stuffed animals were healthy.

We're told some animals were diagnosed with zeebrafeebra and bearlaria.

Kids listened for heartbeats, gave shots and learned the names of some medical tools.

An UNMC Instructor says having the clinic was a great way for kids to feel comfortable about visiting the doctor when the time is necessary.
"When children can do things that will eventually be done to them they're a little bit more comfortable," said Wendy Wells. "And when they have an exam they might feel less afraid or anxious when they're in the it might help them decide they want to be in the health career field as well."
Organizers say today was a great way to promote health in an interactive and fun way.
