Latest phone scam targeting local banking customers

Posted: Updated:

Another phone scam is hittingresidents throughout the panhandle, this time local banking customers are feelingthe brunt of it.

In the latest scam, residents say they have been receiving calls informing them that their debit card has been blocked.

Others have been told that their Master Card has been locked andto enter their credit card information.

Customers have said they then called their local banks and were toldthat their cards were not blocked.

Alliance Police Chief John Kiss says scams have been popping upmore frequently over the last few years and that people aren't jumping into givingout their information right away.

He recalled being contacted by a Verizon scam earlier this year.

"I personally have a city phone as well as a personal phoneand both phones went off almost simultaneously with the scam and other people withmultiple phones who have different numbers saw the same thing," said Kiss.

He went onto say if anyone receives automated calls or somethingthat seems disturbing to contact their local law enforcement or the place of origin like your local bankor cell phone company.
