Handy Bus barn project deadline pushed back a third time

Posted: Updated:

The construction deadline for a Handy Bus Barn project in Gering has now been extended for a third time.

During Monday night's Scotts Bluff County Commissionersmeeting, contractors asked for a ten day extension because of weather setbacks.

The project was originally scheduled to be completed by March 14th. Then the deadline wasmoved to March 28th and now April 8th.

Federal funding covers more than half of the $1 milliondollar project.

Commissioners are concerned that with the new date, theycould lose federal funding.

Chairman Mark Masterton says he needs their funding agentrepresentative to find out when the federal funding cutoff date is.

"I won't give it pass the time that we won't getfunding so that's a critical date. You need to find that out before I think wecan take any action," said Masterton.

Masterton went on to say he didn't care when the completion date for the project is as long as there is funding.

Commissioners plan to charge Paul Reed Construction Companya $500 late fee a day after the April 8th deadline.
