Lake Minatare Elementary School looks to the community for guidance

More than one million dollars of needed renovations at LakeMinatare Elementary facilities have the district facing some difficultdecisions.

Some of the immediate needs include replacing the schoolboiler, and asbestos abatement.

Within the next five years the school will be in need ofclassroom renovations, replacement of the mechanical system and electricalupgrades. These projects alone will cost the district near $1,950,000.

The Board of Education and district leadership are nowlooking to the community to help develop a plan of action that makes sense forboth the district, and the families of Lake Minatare.

To do this, they will be holding a series of meetings foranyone in the community who wishes to voice their thoughts on the future of the elementary school.

Lake Minatare principalFrances Burkhalter says these meetings are simply for the public to engage inconversation about what is going to be best for students and the district as awhole.

"As a principal, I have to be aware that there is a lot ofemotions on both sides and that there are a lot of facts that need to beweighed out. My primary goal is to make sure that everybody's voice is heard,that parents are heard, community members are heard, people that have aninvestment in the school, and investment in the district are heard, so my jobprimarily at this time is to listen," says Burkhalter.

All three meetings will be held at Lake Minatare Elementary School.

The first meeting is scheduled for tomorrow evening at 6:30and there will be another on Tuesday, March 25th at 6:30 as well.

The final meeting will be on Friday, March 28th at8 a.m.
