Newly elected Bridgeport officials ready to serve residents

Posted: Updated:

Two newly elected officials in Bridgeport say they're ready to serve and protect the residents in the city.
During the latest city council meeting Mayor Jack Berg and the council appointed David Hunt IV as police chief and Kirk Fellhoelter as city administrator.

Hunt began his law enforcement career as a reserved officer for the Gordon Police Department before becoming a full-time officer there. He went on to become the lieutenant in Crawford before spending three years as a Bridgeport police officer. Hunt says for the last six months he was the interim police chief of Bridgeport.

"The department has been running very smoothly," said Hunt. "We have a great bunch of officers right now and I'm just happy that I've been giving the opportunity by the mayor, the council and the city of Bridgeport to do this job."

Fellhoelter is a Bridgeport High School graduate. He then went to University of Nebraska and majored with concentrations in political science, marketing, and communications.

He graduated from Baylor University with a Juris Doctor and will graduate from UNL in May with a Master of Community and Regional Planning.
"I'll be out and about in the community meeting with businesses talking with folks. This week I was meeting with the city council members talking with them. I'm going to be doing that next week. We're going to be holding a lot of community events and I'll just be available at those. And everybody's welcome to stop by the city office," said Fellhoelter.
Both men say they're settling into their new positions and are excited to give back to the community.
