Cabela's new housing project will be one-of-a-kind

The new housing development coming to Sidney will beout–of–the ordinary, in terms of design.

480–acres of land will be used to develop a new housingsubdivision just east of Sidney.

Cabela's is spearheading the initiative as the developer, and plans to build nearly 750 houses in the project.

Pat Maher, Cabela's Senior Construction Project Manager, says the new housing development will be unlike others in the area.

Maher says the development will be a 'curva–linear'pattern, with a lot of cul-de-sacs, instead of the typical'grid–pattern' of most subdivisions.

"We didn't feel that's what we wanted. We wantsomething as you can drive down thorough the project here; you've got a lot ofopen space. Our houses are set way back, you can see these are deep lots. Butwhen you come in, you're not going to see the side of a house; you're lookingat green space."

Maher says the 'curva–liner' design will save upto 25 percent on water, sewer and street costs compared to using agrid–pattern.
