Purple cupcake sale promotes epilepsy awareness

Posted: Updated:

Purple cupcakes made an appearance at this weekend's winter farmers market.

Purple day, a day in which people wear the color in an effort to raise awareness about epilepsy worldwide is right around the corner on March 26th.

Cloud 9, a local bakery took part in the "great purple cupcake project," which raises money for the epilepsy foundation.

Katie Ernst, co-owner of the bakery says that she is happy because the money is going toward the education on epilepsy, so that people are not afraid and are more aware of what to do in a situation.

The foundation holds a special place in the baker's hearts for a number of reasons.

"Our sister, Rebecca has epilepsy and a good friend of ours' little boy also has epilepsy and we thought it was a great way to help raise money for education on epilepsy awareness," says co-owner Carriane White.

The sisters say more than $200 was raised with the cupcake sale.

Cloud nine bakery is taking donations for the epilepsy foundation through the end of the month.
