Lyman man arrested for beating girlfriend; breaks eye socket

A 20-year-old Lyman man is facing serious charges after allegedly assaulting his girlfriend because she looked at another man.

Jose L. Rodriguez Jr. was arrested on Sunday on a charge of Domestic Assault 1st Degree (Serious Bodily Injury).

Sheriff Deputies were dispatched to Regional West Medical Center to investigate the victim's injuries. Court documents say that she had swelling around her left eye, ruptured blood vessels in her right eye, and had a broken eye socket.

An interview revealed that Rodriguez allegedly struck her with closed fists for approximately 20 minutes. The victim's mother brought her to the hospital for treatment. She also said that if her daughter returned to her residence in Lyman that he would harm her to the point of death.

When Deputies arrived to the home of Jose Rodriguez Jr., he admitted to hitting the victim "a couple of times". He said he became upset because they had made a promise to one another and would not look at the opposite sex. He said he caught the victim looking at another male and he got upset.

Rodriguez is being charged with a Class III felony, and if convicted would face mandatory jail time.
