Region 22 Emergency Management ready for Wednesday's tornado drill

Posted: Updated:

Tuesday morning do not be alarmed if you hear a siren blaring outside throughout parts of Scotts Bluff County.
Members of Region 22 Emergency Management are set for a mock tornado warning drill in the panhandle.

The drill will take place at 9:30 a.m. and a siren will be going off for three minutes. Community members and local businesses are asked to participate in the drill.

Director Jerry Bretthauer says for about a week he has been working with the Cheyenne Weather Service Department and the state of Nebraska to coordinate a day and time for the drill.

He says there are about six sirens in Scottsbluff, three in Gering and one in Terrytown that will go off together.
"We will have one of the firemen going out and making sure someone is stationed at each of the sirens so that we know they are going to be activated when they're set off. We've already done a preliminary test to show that there is connectivity and that they will start," said Bretthauer.
Bretthauer said the tornado test will be announced on the radio and television as well.
