Major construction beginning on Scottsbluff roads on Monday

Posted: Updated:

A nearly two month project to repave a major Scottsbluff street will begin on Monday.

Avenue I will soon be getting new curbs, sidewalks, and a complete repaving. The stretch will run from South Beltline up to 27th Street.

One major change will be the removal of on-street parking on the west side of the road. Contractors will add a center turn lane in its place to alleviate traffic congestion.

Public Works Director Mark Bohl says Avenue I is long overdue for these much needed repairs.

"It's just in disarray," says Bohl. "It needs to be repaired and this is the perfect time when you're using 80 percent federal money to take advantage of that."

The project will cost $1.4 million dollars, the city will be responsible for about $288,000. Construction is expected to be complete by mid-June.
