Panhandle students get a sneak peak of tonight's Calje performance at Midwest Theater

Posted: Updated:

Hundreds of panhandle students got a taste of the Afro-Cuban jazz ensemble that is set to perform at the Midwest Theater tonight.

Calje, the ensemble out of Chicago, is a mix of Cuban rhythms with modern jazz harmony, Spanish flamenco and Jamaican reggae.

The five-piece ensemble performed this afternoon to area students in an interactive high-energy performance. Calje's music is said to be a 'new and innovative force' of music and dance on the jazz scene.

The group will also perform at the Midwest Theater tonight. Executive Director Billy Estes says approximately 500 tickets have been sold for tonight's 7:30 show, and tickets will be available for purchase at the box office.
