Judge rules man charged in Mitchell bomb scare is competent to stand trial

Posted: Updated:

39-year-old Christopher Lopez appeared in Scotts Bluff County court Friday afternoon for a competency hearing related to charges stemming from a New Year's Eve bomb scare in Mitchell.

Lopez earlier filed a motion of intent to rely on an insanity defense, but a judge overturned that motion after a mental health professional's report stated Lopez is competent to stand trial.

Lopez is scheduled back in court June 26th for a pre-trial conference, and will be facing a July trial.
