Arrest made in Western Nebraska Veterans Home theft

The Scottsbluff Police Department has arrested a suspect in the Western Nebraska Veterans Home theft.

Captain Brian Wasson says 32-year-old Curtis Soester was arrested around 6:30 p.m. on Friday.

According to the news release, an off-duty officer observed a person riding a similar bicycle near the police department in the early evening hours. Although the officer lost sight of the suspect a search of the area located a blue and white bicycle matching the one seen in surveillance video that was taken on Thursday.

Officers investigating the location of this bicycle identified Soester.

Officers questioned Soester who provided them with statements which were found to be untrue.

Soester claimed to have been with other people at the time of the theft. Officers then collected statements from those witnesses which led to Soester's arrest.

While being transported to jail Soester provided an officer with the driver's license of the victim in this case. It appeared to have been concealed on his person during his arrest.

Soester is being charged with one count of Robbery.

At approximately 11:10 p.m. on Thursday, Scottsbluff Police Departmentresponded to the Western Nebraska Veterans Home to investigate a reportedtheft.

The victim David Bixler, a resident of the campus told officers that while he was outsideof his residence on the campus a male forcibly removed his wallet from hisperson and fled the area with the wallet.
