Lifeguardsin Scottsbluff will soon be enjoying a little more cash.

The Scottsbluff City Council approved the amendment for a thirty cent increase inlifeguard pay.

Thecouncil compared Scottsbluff's pay scale to that of Gering and found that Gering includes lifeguard pay in the cost of living increases, while Scottsbluffdoes not.

Assistant city manager Nathan Johnson says it hadbeen difficult in the past to find people who want to be lifeguards.

"We're moving forward and trying to be competitive and attract individuals, lastyear we had a problem attracting individuals to become lifeguards," says Johnson. This yearwe're trying to be a little more proactive. Not meeting Gering's pay range, butjust a little under to attract and maintain individuals as lifeguards."

Theincrease will take place immediately, leaving the city time to hire lifeguards before the rush this summer.
