Suspect in Western Nebraska Veterans Home robbery makes first court appearance

The man accused of robbing a local veteran of his wallet was formally arraigned Monday afternoon in Scotts Bluff County Court.

32-year-old Curtis Soester is being charged with a Class 2 Felony Robbery after being suspected of taking a wallet from a resident at the Western Nebraska Veterans Home last Thursday night.

Scotts Bluff County Judge Kris Mickey called the incident "somewhat startling."

Soester was arrested around 6:30 p.m. on Friday, March 28th by the Scottsbluff Police Department after being spotted by an off-duty officer.

Soester had the ID of the victim from the robbery on him at the time of his arrest.

His bond is set at 10 percent of $200,000. If convicted, he could face up to 50 years behind bars.

Soester is scheduled to appear in court for his preliminary hearing on Thursday, April 10th at 11:00 a.m.
