Nebraska's Attorney General touts the importance of Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month

Posted: Updated:

As Colorectal Cancer Awareness month concludes, it is important to remember that anybody is fair game for this silent killer.
Earlier this month, Attorney General Jon Bruning stopped by the KOTA Territory studios as he campaigned for governor.

Last year, the 44-year-old was experiencing severe acid reflux, and his doctor recommended a colonoscopy. Doctors were able to catch a cancerous lump, cut it out, and prevent it from growing.

Bruning says know the health concerns and your family history to see if you should get screened for colon cancer.  "If you have any signs or signals where you think maybe you should get checked; any bleeding- anything like that- I would encourage people to get checked," explains Bruning. "Because the cancer they found in me was about the size of my thumb and the doctor said I would have been dead by the age of 50."
