County commissioners consider not to impose late fees to bus barn project contractors

Posted: Updated:

Commissioners in Scotts Bluff County have considered not imposing any fees on a local contractor after the deadline for the Handibus bus barn project passes.
This comes as local contractor Paul Reed Construction continues to work on the bus barn located on Rundell Road in Gering.

During yesterday's meeting an architect representative told the board they could enforce a fee only if the county shows there were damages due to the delays.

Chairman Mark Masterton says it will likely be difficult to show any damages at the end of the project.

Commissioner Mike Marker agreed not to waive the rights of penalties.
"I would have to agree that we would not waive this cause everybody knew what was going on and I think it's a fair thing to do," said Marker.
The bus barn project was supposed to be completed by March 14th, then the deadline was moved to the 28th and now is set for next Tuesday.
