Women are becoming more involved in agriculture industry

Posted: Updated:

About 50 women from across the panhandle gathered in Sidney this week for an agriculture conference geared toward women.

The 14th annual 'Women in Agriculture' conference went over a variety of topics such as land values, food production and growing vegetables.

The conference aims to keep women abreast of the issues and on-gongs in the ag-industry, as many ag-related seminars are geared toward men.

University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension Educator Karen BeBoer says more women are entering the ag-industry and the conferences help to keep them informed.

"There are more women that are getting into the industry and actually doing the farming as well as women becoming more involved in the operations so I think their place and their importance in the industry has really increased a lot."

The 14th 'Women in Agriculture' conference is hosted by the University of Nebraska Lincoln Extension.
