Saturday kicks off week-long 'Free Dump' at Gering Landfill

Posted: Updated:

Saturday kicks off a week-long incentive for people to get a head start on their spring cleaning.
The Gering landfill hosted a 'free dump day' for Scottsbluff Gering and Mitchell residents in coalition with Keep Scottsbluff-Gering Beautiful's Great American Clean Up.

The free dump days will continue all week until Saturday.
Residents are encouraged to dump unwanted appliances, home goods, and up to four tires.

Darrell Vance, the Interim Director of Environmental Services for Gering, says the free dump days help to keep junk off the streets and keep the area looking its best.
"We try to keep our neighborhoods clean and free of tires, appliances and stuff like that make the whole city look a lot cleaner. And by doing the free dump it helps us out to clean that stuff up and we are expecting anywhere from 200 people today and probably 200 next Saturday."
Those wishing to take part in the free dump days will need to bring their city utility bill and drivers licence to verify their address.

The landfill is open from 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on weekdays and 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday.
