New scam hitting the panhandle

Posted: Updated:

Panhandle residents are being warned of a new scam being reported in the area.

On Friday, a elderly woman called the Scotts Bluff County Attorney's office to verify information from a phone call.

She claims she received a call from an unknown person who identified themselves as an employee of the County Attorney's Office. The caller said the woman's husband had a warrant for his arrest, and she needed to meet the caller with $500 cash to pay off the warrant.

The Scotts Bluff County Sheriff's Office is investigating the matter, but wants people in the area to be aware that this is a scam. If anyone calls you or a family member looking for money or bank account information, hang up and call your local law agency.
