Jury convicts Sosa on all four counts

Posted: Updated:
It took jurors approximately four hours to convict a Morrill man on several felony charges after getting arrested on an outstanding Wyoming warrant.
26-year-old Adrian Sosa was found guilty on two counts of third degree assault of a police officer, felon in possession of a firearm, and resisting arrest.

The charges stem from an incident at a Safeway grocery store in early December.

Law enforcement officers say they attempted to arrest Sosa in the store on an outstanding warrant after he escaped from a Wyoming Prison work camp.

One of the arresting officers, Enrique Rodriguez, testified in court Tuesday that when police approached Sosa in the store, he became physical, injuring two officers.

A gun was also unveiled in the scuffle; it eventually took a tazer and three officers to subdue Sosa.
A fifth charge of possession of a controlled substance was dismissed before trial began this morning.

Sentencing has been set for May 28, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. in Scotts Bluff County District Court.
The charges of assault of a police officer and resisting arrest carry maximum sentences of 5 years in jail; felon in possession of a firearm carries a prison sentence ranging from 3 to 50 years.
