Sidney hiking, biking, walking trail expansion to extend to the interstate

Posted: Updated:

People living in Sidney will soon have a new way to keep fit and enjoy the outdoors.

Sidney City Council recently approved a trail expansion plan that will bring Sidney's current trail system all the way to the interstate.

The hiking, biking and walking trails are currently very popular among locals.

City Manager Gary Person says the million dollar extension plan will take the trail from Deer Run Park through the interstate and connect with the Cabela's campus.

"There's already three miles of hiking, biking, walking trails in Sidney, this will help connect us to the interstate from where it dead ends now near the WNCC campus. So that has met final approval with the Nebraska Department of Roads and we got an 80% cost share financing on that."

Person says construction should begin on the new trails in summer or early fall.
