Scottsbluff police are cracking down on speeders at one busy intersection

Posted: Updated:

The corner of Broadway and 17th has been home to a speed trailer for the past couple of weeks.

Sergeant Phillip Eckerberg says the police department has done this to get voluntary compliance with the speed, so that they can save officers a few traffic stops. He also says the trailers were put up to remind people to slow down, especially if their speedometer is not working.

Although Scottsbluff police enforce speed all around town, there is a specific reason they are targeting this area.

"This (speed trailer) is here based on some complaints we received that people were driving too fast, so we put this up here," says Eckerberg. "We had it facing south first, now we have it facing to the north. We'll also probably be using it soon on Avenue I where the road construction's going on."

Eckerberg says they plan on moving the trailer around other busy parts of town throughout the year.
