Disaster livestock assistance around the corner for producers

Posted: Updated:

Beef and agriculture producers who suffered losses this harsh winter can finally breathe a sigh of relief.

The USDA announced it will begin enrolling producers in a disaster assistance program next Tuesday.

Programs of this kind expired in 2011, but were reinstated as part of the new farm bill passed this year.

U.S. Senator Mike Johanns says he is happy that the long awaited disaster livestock assistance is right around the corner.

"People out there who have experienced losses during this lapse, that maybe gave up hope that there'd ever be any kind of disaster program, I just want to tell them that they need to reach out to their FSA office and go in and sit down. Hopefully they've documented their losses."

Johanns says starting next week, producers should get in contact with their local FSA office to get their well–deserved assistance.
