Scottsbluff Police Department one step closer to becoming fully staffed

Posted: Updated:

The Scottsbluff Police Department has been short staffed for quite a while, but things are shaping up slowly to finally get to full strength.
This week, Officers Zackary Rada and Tyler Fliam departed for a 16-week training at the police academy.

Chief Kevin Spencer says the department is working on filling two additional patrol officer vacancies. They have tested three candidates, and are in the process of performing background checks.
"It's a very important part of the process," explains Spencer. "We need to make sure we're making good hires. We have a tradition of doing that here, so it's just a slow process. We'll have these positions filled as well."
Those new hires will then have a 13-week-training with the Scottsbluff Police Department, and then *they'll* go to the academy.
Chief Spencer commends everybody in the department who has stepped up while short staffed, but by the end of the year they will be back to full strength.
