Scammers posing as police to collect fine

Posted: Updated:

The Scottsbluff Police Department would like to remind citizens of an ongoing phone scam.

It was reported to the Scottsbluff Police Department that a call had been received advising of an outstanding warrant against the victim.  The victim is told to put money on a Green Dot card to pay off the fine.  The suspect then asks for the Green Dot card number in order to obtain the funds.

The citizen reported that they had obtained a call back number (308-201-XXXX).  When the victim called this number back, the call went into voicemail advising that it was the Scottsbluff Police Department and to leave a call back number.

The suspect called the victim back, and pressured them to obtain the funds on the card.  When the victim refused the suspect threatened with immediate arrest.

Please be aware that this is a scam.
