Alliance's streetscape project waiting federal approval

Posted: Updated:

Plans to continue upgrading one panhandle city's downtown are moving forward and the city manager says changes could happen by late summer.
The second phase of Alliance's Streetscape project was just approved by the Nebraska Department of Roads.

The project must now be reviewed by the Federal Highway Administration for approval.

Part of the one million dollar street project, which includes the 300 and 400 block of Box Butte Avenue, is funded by a 289 million dollar federal grant.

"So we're hopeful that relatively soon we will here back and move forward and that we're able to commence shortly after Heritage Days. There is a chance that it could be delayed and it may not be till later but right now that's our best hope," says Cox.
Cox says once the highway administration gives the green light construction will start.
