U.S. retail sales increased in March by most since 2012

Posted: Updated:

Retailers had quite a month of sales during March.

According to Commerce Department figures, retail sales in the United States increased last month by the most since September 2012.

From auto dealers to furniture and clothing stores, the 1.1% jump has benefited businesses all across the country and the trend proved to be the same locally.

Target team leader Scott Marsh says he believes the weather has a lot to do with better numbers.

"March was a really good month for us. I think the weather kind of started to break and people wanted to get out of their house," says Marsh. "I know nationwide, March came out at about a 1% increase the Wall Street Journal said today. It's nice that we're kind of following that trend and we don't always do that here in Scottsbluff."

Marsh says he hopes the numbers rise even more, or at least remain consistent.
