Heineman urges Nebraskans to volunteer for ServeNebraska Week

Posted: Updated:

Governor Dave Heineman today encouraged Nebraskans to volunteer during ServeNebraska Week, April 20-26. Heineman and First Lady Sally Ganem will once again serve as Champions of ServeNebraska Week.

"I encourage all Nebraskans to get involved in their communities as a volunteer. Nebraskans give of their time every single day and this special week is set aside to focus their energy in service," said Gov. Heineman. "Sally and I look forward to volunteering that week alongside many others in our state."

"Volunteerism in our state is one thing that sets Nebraska apart," said First Lady Sally Ganem.

"Nebraskans are quick to step up to help others. Dave and I are honored to be a part of this week of service and encourage everyone in the state to lend a hand."

The Governor and First Lady will volunteer at McPhee Elementary in Lincoln on Tuesday, April 24. They will read to 4th graders at the school.

"Volunteerism spans all ages. Anyone can volunteer," said Jamesena Moore, chairwoman of ServeNebraska. "It's about working together, to meet our community's needs and accomplish our goals."

ServeNebraska Week works to inspire Nebraskans to seek out creative ways to serve their communities. ServeNebraska Week is a statewide effort that encourages families, students, congregations, employees, and individuals of all ages and backgrounds to volunteer their time in giving back to their communities.

Nebraska ranks 5th in volunteerism among the 50 states and Washington, D.C. This week-long effort provides Nebraskans with the flexibility to volunteer at any time or place with a goal to have participation in all 93 counties.
