NPPD members discuss transmission line coming to western Nebraska

Posted: Updated:

Members of the Nebraska Public Power District are in the process of searching for the most useful area to place a new transmission line in the panhandle.

NPPD members held a meeting for city officials and other agencies regarding the new line that will stretch from a Scottsbluff to five miles south of Stegall.

Terry Warth with NPPD says the line is needed to keep up with electricity demands and enhance the power reliability.

Warth says after the first public comment meeting back in January, NPPD narrowed land within the "study area" to "corridors" but more suggestions still need to be considered.

The second public hearing will take place later this month and the corridors land area will be the topic of discussion for residents and landowners within this section.

"Because of the information we receive from the corridors," says Warth. "We'll then come out with a preferred route and alternate route that we'll again ask for comments back before ultimately coming up with a public hearing where we'll denote a preferred route."

The next public open house meeting is set for April 28th at the Gering Civic Center.
