BMS band students visit elementary schools to get younger students interested in band

Posted: Updated:

Students from the Bluffs Middle School band toured local elementary schools today, where woodwind, brass, and percussion players got to show off their skills to younger generations.

The BMS 'Band Recruiting Tour' visited the local elementary schools to get fourth and fifth graders interested in band.

"We're trying to spark an interest in the 4th graders that will be 5th graders and the 5th graders that didn't join band this year," said BMS Director of Bands Michael Koch.

Koch says today's concert tour featured a variety of songs designed to showcase each instrument that makes up the band.
"I think it's really important. Studies have been done that show that being in band will help you be smarter and will help you do better in school. It helps you to learn a good work ethic and it helps with a lot of different areas for students, and so I think every student can benefit from being in band."
