New Sidney swimming pool will likely be an outdoor facility

Posted: Updated:

A swimming pool study is being conducted in Sidney to figure out the best option for the city's new pool.

City Manager Gary Person says plans have been in the works for years to replace the city's current community pool on Toledo Street.

He says a recently implemented half-cent sales tax will help pay for the pool, and consultants are looking at the options to where and how the pool will be built.

Person says while many people have indicated preference for an indoor swimming facility, it's likely the new pool will be outdoors.

"I think the council is leaning toward an outdoor pool facility only simply from the fact that the indoor pools cost a considerable amount of money not only to build, but to maintain on an annual basis."

Person says the swimming pool committee, headed by Mayor Wendall Gaston, are still reviewing all the options.
