New WNCC dorms to travel from Gering to Sidney

Posted: Updated:

Magnolia Homes in Gering is putting together two modulars that will serve as new student dorms at the WNCC  Sidney campus.

The dorms will consist of two buildings with six bedrooms.

Each modular also has a kitchen, common room, bathrooms and laundry room.

WNCC VP of Administrative Services, Bill Knapper, says the new dorms will be able to house up to 24 students.

"This will address a housing shortage in Sidney due to the good fortune of things down in Sidney there's a tremendous shortage of housing of this nature for students," said Knapper.

The dorms are being put together at the Magnolia Homes warehouse in Gering, and will be shipped to Sidney in the coming weeks.

"We are very pleased to be able to partner up with WNCC to provide them with this housing. The type of construction that they needed was very conducive to our building process time-frame wise," said Tyler Kersenbrock, Magnolia Homes Sales Manger.

Kersenbrock says the two modular's will soon be traveling down the highway en route to their permanent location in Sidney.

"The chassis is connected to the bottom of the structure already. So it's hooked up to a truck, hauled down to Sidney, picked up with a crane, set on a foundation, and then finished completion there."

The dorms are expected to be ready for students to move in for the 2014-2015 academic year.

Bill Knapper says the area that has been designated for housing on the Sidney campus is designed for continued housing expansion.

"The way we laid out the Sidney campus for these housing units will accommodate future housing units, so we can expand housing as needed as the campus grows."
