Eagle Elk to be tried as an adult in detention center fatal attack

Posted: Updated:
The case against a 16-year-old who is accused of helping with the fatal assault of a Scotts Bluff County corrections officer earlier this year will remain in adult court.

District Judge Travis O'Gorman rejected a motion to move Guy Eagle Elk's case to juvenile court.
Eagle Elk is accused of aiding in the assault that killed Scotts Bluff County Corrections Officer Amanda Baker on February 14, 2014. He has pleaded not guilty.

Prosecutors say Eagle Elk told Dylan Cardeilhac how to choke Baker into unconsciousness so her jail keys could be taken, and Eagle Elk encouraged Cardeilhac to carry out the attack.

Eagle Elk, of Lisco, Nebraska has said he didn't intend for the guard to be seriously hurt. He is scheduled to go to trial in the jury term that begins on July 7, 2014
