The heated debate about Scottsbluff yard waste continues

Posted: Updated:

The new program requires locals to have their yard waste picked up from the street, instead of alley ways.

At last night's City Council meeting, Assistant City Manager Nathan Johnson presented an overview of the benefits that the new system is bringing. According to Johnson, the total amount that will be saved per year by making these changes is $12,250.62 to $13,050.62 per season.

Many members of the public however, were quick to make it clear that they are still upset about the new rule.

"How are we all of a sudden saving all of this money when we've only been at it two weeks?" asks Scottsbluff resident Chuck Henry.
"I do have nearly 300 names on petitions from people who are upset about having to put their containers out," says Scottsbluff resident Sherry Taylor
The Council says they are just discussing the major issues right now and no immediate action will be taken.
