REEL Earth Festival kicks off

Posted: Updated:
The historic Midwest Theater has put finishing touches on their 5th annual 2014 Reel Earth Festival.

The 4 night event highlights films that relate to earth and the environment. It kicked off last night with the film "Above All Else." The festival ends on Thursday with showings of the films "Crane Trust" and "A River Tamed."

Midwest Theater owner Billy Estes says that he hopes viewers can be open minded because the films are meant to educate, inform, and possibly inspire about earth and the people who call it home.

"Well I think the theater holds a special place in the community in the sense that we can use film as an art form to either educate or inspire or inform in any way, shape or form no matter what side of an issue you're on," says Estes.

Admission has changed from previous years. The cost will be one 16-oz jar of peanut butter or a non-perishable item for the Cat Pack Program
