High speed fugitive enters plea deal in Gering

The man who led police on a high speed chase through Scottsbluff and Gering on March 19th has struck a plea deal with prosecutors to avoid going to trial.

Last month, 23-year-old Alex Paramo crashed his car in Gering after reaching speeds of up to 105 miles per hour. Police found a handgun and methamphetamine in the car.

Today in court, Paramo pled no contest to charges of operating a motor vehicle to avoid arrest, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, and possession of methamphetamine (more than 10 grams, less than 27 grams).

In exchange for his plea, prosecutors dropped a second possession of a firearm charges, as well as several other lesser charges from previous cases.

Sentencing has been set for June 5th at 8 a.m. in Scotts Bluff County District Court. Paramo is facing a minimum of 6 years in jail.
