Local workshops emphasize importance of fair housing

Do you know your rights as a landlord, tenant, or housing authority?

Workshops are being held to make sure you know what qualifies as fair housing.

The third annual Fair Housing Conference was held at the Gering Civic Center this week.

The conference covered a range of housing topics from discrimination to the landlord-tenant act.

The Executive Director of the Housing Partners of Western Nebraska says a number of people from different backgrounds can benefit from learning about fair housing.

"From bankers, to Realtors, to people in the actual housing provision, not just the housing authority, but those that may be private landlords, the training is valuable. April is 'Fair Hosing Month' so we don't want to discriminate, we want to make sure that our policies and our procedures are treating people fairly," says Nancy Bentley, Executive Director of the Housing Partnership of Western Nebraska.
